He refuses to defend himself in court, and his mother Martha testifies for him. It turns out that she is Christou’s daughter. Martha left her father’s house when he refused to consent to her relationship with Dimitris, a poor doctor who stood by her after a car accident. She followed her heart and married him. They had a son, the accused, who had always wanted to meet his grandfather.
