Treasures from the ArchivesThe Danish Film Institute holds a significant collection of early motion pictures by Denmark's first filmmaker Peter Elfelt (1866-1931). Elfelt shot the first moving images in Denmark in the winter of 1896/97, a 30-second sequence called 'Kørsel med Grønlandske Hunde' ('Driving with Greenland Dogs'). Being the official photographer of the Danish royal court, his over 200 films reflect the royalty of the time, society, art and events. Peter Elfelt is also credited as making the first Danish fiction film, 'Henrettelsen' ('The Execution') in 1903.

About EFGAim of the EFG project is to build a web portal with direct access to over 700.000 objects including films, photos, posters, drawings, sound and text material. The project started with an inaugural meeting on 21 September 2008 bringing together representatives from the 20 partner institutions, including 14 film archives and cinémathèques of the EFG consortium. The Europeana Jigsaw:Europeana.eu is the multimedia portal which makes collections from museums, libraries, archives and cinémathèques from all over Europe available to the public. In summer 2010, a fully-operational version of Europeana.eu will be released, giving access to over 10 million objects. A dozen of EU-funded projects contribute to this aim, some of them have just started, like Judaica Europeana, which gives access to collections exposing Jewish experience and culture or EUscreen, which builds on the results of Video Active and aggregates television material for Europeana.
