DEMONSTRATION IN BARCELONA IN SUPPORT OF REGULAR ARMY Regular Army units on parade in Plaça Catalunya. Showing banners featuring portraits of prominent political leaders (such as Government of Catalonia presidents, Lluís Companys and Francesc Macià), flags, infantry units, cavalrymen and trucks. The camera zooms in on the presidential balcony showing Lluís Companys giving a raised fist salute and first minister, Josep Tarradellas. 2. CATALONIA RECEIVES THOUSANDS OF REFUGEES FROM THE WAR ZONE Images of refugees (women, children and elderly) who have come to Catalonia after, we are told by the narrator, the fall of Malaga, gathered in a large dining hall. Images of their arrival and close ups of their faces as they eat. 3. BASQUE MILITIA ATTACK IN THE VILLARREAL SECTOR A cart being pulled by cattle carries heavy weapons and ammunition. Images of the Basque militiamen attacking under enemy fire. They run up a hillside under artillery fire and launch an attack on a farmhouse. 4. MADRID SCHOLARS CARRY ON THEIR STUDIES IN BARCELONA Children and youths from Madrid, evacuated to Catalonia, continue with their school education. Images of children carrying out various activities: doing gymnastics outside in a park, as well as craft activities, compiling a newspaper at a print press, modelling figures out of clay in a workshop and an outdoor painting class. 5. THE CATALAN PEOPLE WILL HOLD A MEETING IN THE PLAÇA MONUMENTAL OF BARCELONA TO DEMOSTRATE THEIR SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE OF MADRID A plane flies over the Plaça Monumental bullring in Barcelona, where a rally is being held in solidarity with the people of Madrid. It is packed full. The camera zooms in to note the presence of Josep Tarradellas and government representative, Joan Comorera. Speeches made by health minister, Federica Montseny, and Lluís Companys. 6. REPUBLICAN FORCES FIGHTING IN THE STREETS OF OVIEDO Images, possibly of the February 1937 offensive in Oviedo. Groups of dynamiters and militiamen clear the way between the buildings on the outskirts of the city. At the cemetery, a group of people place a wreath at the tomb of journalist Luis Sirval, killed in October. 7. MANOEUVRES OF THE PUPILS OF THE BARCELONA POPULAR MILITARY SCHOOL TAKE PLACE ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF THE TOWN Students of the Popular School of War carry out training exercises: building bridges for the infantry and trench walls, artillery movement and riding horses over difficult terrain. Four officers on horseback inspect the troops as they stand to attention. Images of the parade marching through the streets of Barcelona. 8. ONCE MORE BARCELONA AND ITS ENVIRONS HAVE BEEN BOMBARDED BY THE BLACK PLANES OF THE REBELLION The ruined remains of buildings in Barcelona as a result of aerial bombings. Images of the demolition work. 9. THROUGH THE STREETS OF BARCELONA FILES THE BATALLION OF DEATH, THE NEW SHOCK TROOPS OF THE ARMY OF LIBERTY Republican Army special assault unit, The Battalion of Death, on parade through the streets of Barcelona. The battalion, in full dark uniform, march under a flag featuring a skull and crossbones insignia. Images of some of the battalion members. The crowd cheers. 10. IN THE PLAZA DE CATALUÑA PRESIDENT COMPANYS HAS ASSISTED AT THE INAUGURATION OF A MONUMENT TO THE HEROIC SOLDIER OF THE ARMY OF THE PEOPLE A ceremony to unveil a monument dedicated to soldiers of the Regular Popular Army is held in Plaça Catalunya. The statue is of a soldier in formation. Lluís Companys arrives, greeting and kissing two little girls. Josep Tarradellas, Joan Comorera and other dignitaries are among the large crowd gathered for the event. Soldiers from the Battalion of Death stand guard in front of the monument.
