Description:This film presents at least two distinct settings: on the one hand, the film reports on the progress of a construction site near Caen. From the foundations of the buildings to the roofs, the different stages of construction can be seen. A complex of wooden buildings has been built. Some shots may show other construction sites. On the other hand, this film shows images of a protest in Rouen. During a rally in front of the Saint-Ouen abbey and the city hall of Rouen, the banners demand a status for the sailors and the defense of peace. It is quite difficult to identify these images which date from the post-war period. The site shows that national reconstruction is at work. The protest in Rouen is characteristic of a time when professional demands and slogans in favor of peace were mixed together. The allusions to the war in Indochina and the bias in favor of the cessation of hostilities are noteworthy. This protest took place after 1947, perhaps even at the turn of the 1950s. This film is composed of images that do not correspond temporally, thematically or geographically. Among those related to construction, there are some nice shots, including workers working on the roofs. Some sequences are doubled. The images of the rally in Rouen are quite amazing, especially those of the demonstrators leaning against the Saint-Ouen abbey.
